MICHAEL R. LAYMAN (1960)
US Marine Corps

Michael Layman graduated from Wilson in 1960.  He served in the US Marine Corps from 1960 until 1983. Michael trained as a helicopter crew chief and served two years in Vietnam, once as a Corporal and later as a Captain. Returning from his first tour as a Sergeant he was sent to OCS and became a Tank Officer.

Later, Michael attended St Martins College in Lacey, WA where he obtained a degree. The Marine Corps sent him to language school twice. Prior to his second tour in Vietnam he attended Vietnamese language school and later, he studied Greek for a year before being assigned to Athens, Greece. Michael retired in 1983 and went to work for Makita Power Tools as an operations manager.

Michael became a Hot Air Balloonist and started a ride business known as Teenie Weenie Airlines. After living in many different states and on three continents, he is now retired in his native Portland.
